Birgunj: Locals have lodged a complaint with the District Disaster Management Committee, Parsa, on Monday against widespread irregularities in the procurement and distribution of relief items in Chhipaharmai gaupalika of Parsa district.
The complaint, signed by dozens of locals, alleges that Manoj Gupta, chairman of the village municipality, and Devnath Sah, executive officer of the municipality, did not distribute relief items to the most needy families of the municipality but only to those around them. The then CPN (UML) did not provide relief materials to the needy families supported by the CPN (Maoist), Nepali Congress, Rajpa and Samajwadi Party. There was a general clash in Jhalamahiya Tol on Friday.
Contrary to the list of 222 candidates prepared by the all-party committee of Jhalamahiya, Chairman Gupta and Ward Chairman Binod Sah have distributed relief materials to only about 100 of their supporters. Samajwadi Party representative Jadunandan Raut Ahir said that two persons, including a policeman of the village, were injured when the police used batons to disperse the crowd. It is mentioned in the complaint that Chairman Gupta has nominated his nephew Ghanshyam Sah Kanu as the representative of the CPN (Maoist) in the all-party committee of Jhalamahiya.
Similarly, local CPN (Maoist) leader Dinesh Sah said that the working style of Chairman Gupta has confirmed the widespread irregularities in the procurement and distribution of relief items by forming groups in the name of village municipality and ward level all-party committee of each ward. It is mentioned in the complaint that Devnath Sah is fully involved in this risky situation even during the Corona virus epidemic.
Nepali Congress (NC) representative Bagha Yadav said that Gupta did not seek official representation from any party including the CPN (Maoist), NC, Rajpa and Samajwadi Party while appointing a representative in the all-party committee.
