The economic growth rate for the current fiscal year is 2.3 percent

Kathmandu: The economic growth rate is expected to fall to 2.3 percent in the current fiscal year. Finance Minister Dr. Announcing the Economic Survey Report (2076/77) in Parliament, Yuvaraj Khatiwada said that the economic growth rate is expected to shrink to 2.3 percent in the current fiscal year.

Earlier, on April 3, the Central Statistics Office had projected a growth rate of 2.27 percent this year. The government, on the other hand, has increased its estimate by 0.03 percent. The government had set a growth target of 8.5 percent in the current fiscal year’s budget.

However, Khatiwada said that the growth rate of the economy has shrunk due to the outbreak of the corona virus which started after last February and its impact on the economy.

Earlier, Nepal’s economic growth was 6.75 percent in the last fiscal year 2075/76. In the fiscal year 2074/75, the economic growth rate was 6.35 percent.

Corona has been hit hard, especially in the service sector. In the mid-term review of the budget, the Finance Minister Dr. Yuvaraj Khatiwada had claimed that the economic growth would be in line with the target.
