Nijgadh: Excavation of ballast sand from Lal Khola in Chure area of Nijgadh Municipality-10 of Bara has been intensified despite the opportunity of lockdown. The Nijgadh municipality seems to have become the frontrunner as the municipality was not even aware of the exploitation of the red river by violating the rules of the government of Nepal.

Though the Bhairav / Narayan / Gyanesh Construction JV Company of Nepalgunj has been excavating in Khare for two days to construct the road from Tamagadhi to Lal under the proposed Tamagadhi-Amalekhganj road section, the mayor of the municipality Suresh Khanal has given an irresponsible reply.

Khanal, the mayor of Nijgadh municipality, said that he was not aware of the excavations taking place in his own town even though the IEE report was not approved. According to him, the excavation should be done only with the approval of the technical team of the municipality.

However, it seems that the mayor remained silent or gave false details even when the municipality was not informed about the technical approval. Even after informing the mayor Khanal about this, he replied that he would not stop the excavation work immediately but would consult with the contractor.

Shiva Prasad Chaulagai, a contractor of Bhairav / Narayan / Gyanesh Construction JV Company of Nepalganj, said that the riverine material was excavated with the verbal agreement of Nijgadh Municipality and Ward Office.

It is seen that the company has started the construction work from illegal excavation before signing the contract agreement with the road office. Although the contract has been approved in the name of the company from the Division Road Office, Hetauda, no agreement has been reached yet. The company has been excavating 2 wards using excavators, 2 loaders and 5 tippers since Tuesday evening. Similarly, 2 dozers, 1 roller and 2 more excavators are also in use in the road construction work.
